Apple Seeds releases iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 release candidates
Apple today released candidate builds of the upcoming iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 updates to developers for testing, with the betas arriving less than a week after Apple released them. The fourth row is iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 beta.
Registered developers can download iOS162 and iPadOS 16.2 from the Apple Developer Center, and the beta is live after installation.
Today’s RC brings end-to-end encryption for additional iCloud features, with the feature available to all US users with the launch of iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2. iCloud Advanced Data Protection adds end-to-end encryption for iCloud Backup, Notes & Photos, iCloud Drive, and more. When Advanced Data Protection is enabled, iCloud Mail, Contacts, and Calendar are the only iCloud categories not covered by end-to-end encryption.

Apple has added a new Home App architecture arriving in iOS and iPadOS 16.2, which Apple says is designed to provide faster and more reliable performance, especially in homes with many smart home accessories. The new version requires HomePod 16.2 beta software and prevents the Home app from working with devices running iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, or updated to iOS 16.2 or later. macOS Ventura 13.1.
