“Build a link between the university and public decision-makers”
After defending his medical thesis in public health at the University of Angers in 2021, Mathieu Levaillant is currently head of the clinic for universities – assistant for hospitals. A position funded by the University Health Areas (Tus).
Supported by the Faculty of Health from 2020AU and local authorities (see opposite), the Tus system aims to combat medical deserts. In this sense, a number of measures have been defined: encouraging the placement of young doctors who have graduated from the Faculty of Health in areas of tension (especially Mayen and Sarte), allowing health centers to provide university training to medical students, appointing young doctors. graduate clinic directors… Thus, in November 2022, with the arrival of Mathieu Levaillant, nine positions were allocated in three years.
Mathieu Levaillant is the head of the university clinic – hospital assistant. Mathieu Levaillant, recruited by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Pays de la Loire and assigned to the departments of Men-et-Loire, Mayenne and Sarthe, is also attached to the Faculty of Health.AU where it trains students from three departments of public health (medicine, pharmacy, obstetrics). ” The idea of this discipline is to show how health organizations can improve the health of the population.he explains. My job is not to cure people, but to help ensure that they are not sick and to provide the best possible response when they are. Inequalities in health exist and there is no reason to accept it, and therefore it makes sense to work in these areas. One response to these inequities is public decision-making: ensuring that actions taken by AYS, the Faculty of Health, and communities respond to health needs. »
Training for the medical practice of tomorrow
Reinvesting in territories and bringing the public decision-maker closer to the university world was also the subject of Mathieu Levaillant’s second thesis defended at the University of Lille in December 2022. ” For example, if AYS decides to open or close a maternity hospital, the need and quality of care must be assessed, and the university has objective, methodical and structured assessment skills. I want to promote the relationship between these two actors. »
Mathieu is aware of the magnitude of the task with his double hat, and Mayenne and Sarthe are trying to spread the good word despite the fragility of the healthcare proposal. It states the role and role of the Faculty of HealthAU in response to this problem. ” A student does not settle in a place he does not knowhe assures. 25% of second-year health students do internships outside of Men-et-Loire every year, and our mission is to support them and reassure them: exploring the territory does not have to cost them humanly or financially. We also train them in the medical practice of tomorrow: mixed practices between the city and the hospital, in multi-professional health centers, in telemedicine practice. »
Prevention in colleges and high schools
An accompaniment that should be put in place from an early age. Because a young person living in Angers and a young person from Laval may not have the same fears about health professions. ” It is important for these studies to be recognized in colleges and high schools to promote the professions, the head of the clinic emphasizes. Another solution is that these training courses come to them and therefore students can follow the first year PluriPass or health permit license at Le Mans from 2010 and at Laval from 2019. and that the Mayenne departmental council funds scholarships for high school students to support them in their success at the Faculty of Medicine. »
Ultimately, the goal is that approximately fifteen positions (clinical supervisors∙, teachers and associate professors∙) will be funded to supervise health students during internships or internships at Cholet, Le Mans and Laval hospitals.
