Atos coordinates the SUNRISE project to protect European infrastructures from major disasters
Madrid, January 23, 2023 – Atos will coordinate a group of 41 public and private organizations that will work together on the SUNRISE project over the next three years. This project aims to develop a range of technologies and solutions that will increase the resilience of critical infrastructures to the impact of pandemics and related risks related to climate change or resource scarcity. In doing so, it will ensure the greatest availability, reliability and sustainability of critical equipment such as transport, energy, water and health.
The purpose of SUNRISE is to build cross-sector and cross-border cooperation so that the operators of these infrastructures can share best practices with each other. The project will identify their respective needs and develop advanced technological tools to meet them. The diversity of organizations involved in SUNRISE will enable researchers to understand in detail the specific risks of each EU country and tailor the response.
In addition to participating as project coordination and technology provider, Atos will participate in the analysis of critical infrastructure services and the design of SUNRISE tools, with a focus on cyber-physical resilience and remote verification of these infrastructures. Atos will provide a threat intelligence solution and perform dynamic risk assessment through visual anomaly detection, 3D modeling and drone inspection. In addition, he will participate in the development and implementation of the development plan and lead the coordination, management and quality and risk control of the entire project.
During the SUNRISE presentation held at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, project coordinator Antonio Alvarez from the cybersecurity team of Atos Iberia’s Innovation Pole (ARI) explained that these critical infrastructures are extremely important for our societies, ” but operators of essential services and European authorities are not yet well equipped to deal with the risks that are testing their sustainability. “.
Research within the SUNRISE project is progressing rapidly and the partners have already held a series of workshops with critical infrastructure operators in Spain, Italy and Slovenia, gathering first-hand knowledge essential to the development of the project. The results of the study will be tested in 18 institutions in 8 different countries.
Funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe program to the tune of 11 million euros, the project is coordinated by Atos through its Madrid-based innovation center ARI (Atos Research and Innovation). Learn more about SUNRISE on Twitter and LinkedIn.
